Unleash your potential by making the learning process explicit, understanding your preferences for using it, and learning new ways to apply it to all aspects of your life and work.

In one’s career, family and personal life, a better understanding of the learning process and learning preferences is the key to a better life. Based on the book How You Learn Is How You Live: Using Nine Ways of Learning to Transform Your Life by Kay Peterson and David A. Kolb, this foundational program introduces the principles of experiential learning by expanding the definition of learning from what happens in the classroom to what happens in life.

The self-awareness about one’s habits of learning can shed light on blind spots and impact all of one’s life from the quality of decisions and relationships to the paths one chooses to pursue. The goal of any deliberately developmental organization is to first help individuals become capable learners who are self-aware, monitor their own process, and continually improve it.

What can an individual, team or organization do to learn how to learn more effectively? Experiential learning has provided a process map with four key steps that are essential for effective learning: the learning cycle. This course will explain those steps and describe nine patterned responses to using the process (learning styles), each of which presents strengths and challenges. Specific strategies are provided for building agility to use all nine approaches and acquiring the many corresponding benefits: more flexibility, less stress and conflict even with more diverse relationships, and more choice and happiness in life.

The course concludes with a personal plan to expand one’s learning style repertoire and create environments that support learning and development.

This introduction to Kolb Experiential Learning provides a life-altering experience in developing self-awareness and awareness of others. It also proves that experiential learning should be on the agenda of everyone trying to enact personal change and every organizational change effort.

Learning Outcomes

How It Works

This course is designed using experiential learning principles. As you work through the course content you will step through a self-discovery process of reviewing your own learning preferences. You will be guided through exercises that will help you uncover the impact of your style preferences to your life challenges. Then, you will design simple, practical actions that will allow you to become better and more effective. Finally, you will create and implement a personal or professional development plan. At each stage of the process you will receive feedback from experiential learning experts.

When you finish the course and complete your development plan, you will earn a digital credential.
